Loosing weight with spirulina

There is currently no scientific evidence that spirulina is an effective treatment for weight loss.

In a double-blind study it was found that individuals taking 8.4g  of spirulina daily did lose weight. There was also a significant drop in serum cholesterol levels documented for the individuals taking spirulina in the study. Unfortunately the weight loss difference between the placebo group and the spirulina group was not statistically different.  The group taking spirulina did lose weight, but the data did not prove the weight loss was absolutely the result of spirulina. More scientific studies are needed to establish the effectiveness of spirulina as an effective weight loss treatment.

Spirulina has been proven to contain essential nutrients. Spirulina has also been proven to be protein dense at approximatley 70% protein, by weight. The nutrient and protein data is what leads many to believe that spirulina is an effective weight loss treatment.

Make sure to buy a quality spirulina supplement, should you choose to evaluate the effectiveness of spirulina yourself.  Cheap spirulina, typically produced in china, may not be as beneficial as spirulina exported from other countries.
